June 25-The Joint Public Health Committee of the Massachusetts legislature heard S.1208/H.1926, The End of Life Options Act, on June 25. Please urge the Committee Co-Chairs to discuss, vote on , and report the bill out favorably (pass it) and forward it to the full legislature.

June 14- STATE WIDE MEETING re: DEATH with DIGNITY CAMPAIGN

Friday June 14, noon-5pm, Millbury Federated Church

20 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527 near Worcester, (10 minutes from exit 11 off Mass Pike and Rte 146 South). It’s wheelchair accessible and free parking is behind church. If you need to arrive late or leave early it’s OK. BYO lunch.

Proposed Agenda, 12-1 eat lunch and get to know each other. 1-5 will be broken into 4- 50 minute sessions to discuss various topics. Overall, we see this gathering as a chance to get to know each other better- as well as brainstorm specific strategy ideas and programs- as we move forward during the critical next months to first get the bill passed by the Joint Committee on Public Health, and then debated, voted on, and passed by the full legislature.








June 4- The Massachusetts Joint Committee on Public Health announced a hearing date of Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 11AM-5PM for testimony on The End of Life Options Act, H1926/S1208. This will occur at the State House, Gardner Auditorium, Boston. We will post further plans and news about this in the coming days.

           News from other States

MAINE- Great News! On June 12 Governor Janet Mills signed into law L.D.1313, a Death with Dignity bill. “My decision was the result of weighing the pros and cons and experiences of many other people in the state of Maine and their desires and cautions and concerns.” On On June 4 the Maine Legislature voted to legalize the Death with Dignity Act. It now goes to Governor Janet Mills, who has ten days to act on it. Her position has not been made public. May, 30 the Maine Senate passed the Death with Dignity legislation by a vote of 19-16. On May 28 the Maine House of Representatives narrowly passed (68-72) Death with Dignity legislation.

NEW JERSEY-

April 12- New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law the Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act. Please read Governor Murphy’s statement below.




NEW YORK- On April 9 New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated in a radio interview, on WAMC Albany, that he was in support of the Medical Aid in Dying Act.
